Windows isn't a modern operating system and is notrious for its runtime
fragility.... but remember this is an APPLET we're talking about and I
have no control over what environment the client is using.  It might be a
browser on Linux or Windows or Macintosh or who knows what.  If a Java 3D
applet doesn't work for even one of the popular browsers or operating
systems, then it can't be deployed.  Simple as that.

If there's a bug in Java 3D it needs to be fixed or Java 3D will never
be usable in applets.
