On a related note,

Anyone know when JDK 1.4.2 is going to be out?

Supposedly blackdown are already porting it so it must be close...

I read somewhere that a guy knew a Sun employee who ran some benchmarks
and said some were notably faster with 1.4.2 vs 1.4.1.

Anyone know of any low-level hotspot optimizations that could make
Java3D faster?

Oh, one more thing...I assume that Java3D 1.3.1 will work with JDK
1.4.2...right?

On a another related note, are the native parts of Java 3D (for windows)
being compiled with the new Visual Studio.NET C++ compiler? They say it
produces faster, more optimized programs. Might be a free performance
gain on the low level Java 3D implementation.

Excellent, thanks, next question then :)

Just made into a FAQ entry. A few people have run into this now.
Actually surprised that more haven't.

anyone out there know when java3d 1.3.1 or a beta will be available? :)

Our last chat with Kelvin said "start of the new year" so we're hoping
that it will be in the next week or two because the M6 release of Xj3D
is going to rely on a number of bug fixes in this beta - particularly
for audio support.
