The last JET releases compiles AWT, Swing, Java3D, etc.
I used JET to compile some Java3D demos, including Florin's SceneGraphTest.
The FPS number were between 95% to 105%. But it is not conclusive.
A thing I learned : the HotSpot VM is a magic thing.

Another point about the "too slow" theme:
IL2 Sturmovick is a combat flight simulator game in Java over a
underlying OpenGL/DirectX API.
People just find out a reason to upgrade theirs video card after the
game, to have more FPS and richer graphics.

Nowadays, nobody built 3D games to run on old TNTs or onBoard video
cards. They build for GForces and Radeons ;)

Hi,
my advice is not to trust too much these rumors.
Newest JVMs are very fast.
Benchmarks are not "the truth", but I think are much better
than rumors

I agree with you. Java performance is good enough for decent GUIs.

Just for curiosity: has somebody managed to compile Java3D to native code ?
AFAIK, JET and GCJ are not able to handle AWT and I would guess that the
same
is true for Java3D.
