I am using java3d to make a simple 3d shooter game.I think that first of all sun should make an official statment about the current java3d status. If it is indeed "dead" they should open source it , to support the efforts of projects like Xith3d.I think that dropping java3d will be a huge mistake. They are only supporting direct3d this way.I also belive that the lack of a decent 3d api in java is cutting off a whole class of projects. Some time ago someone said that they are dropping java3d because they were not making money of it , people were not buying there 3d hardware , but ATI's and NVIDIA's.I belive it is time for SUN to realize that their bright future is in software , not hardware. The hardware market is dominated by Intel,AMD,ATI,NVIDIA , not SUN.Pushing the hardware at the cost of dropping software is a lost battle.
Ivan.
