Recently there has been much discussion regarding the future of Java 3D (TM)
and Java for OpenGL (JOGL). We wanted to give you an update on this.
Java 3D is a mature and stable product. There are many applications that use
Java 3D and we are pleased with its acceptance. We have just released version
1.3.1 which we believe is very stable and robust. Our plans are to maintain
Java 3D should any serious bugs or issues appear. Should this change, we
will let you know.
Java for OpenGL (R) (jogl) ( http://jogl.dev.java.net/ ) is a Java binding for
the OpenGL API. Sun has released this binding to the open source community.
Our plans are to solicit feedback from the community regarding this binding
and to incorporate this feedback into the jogl library.
As has been noted, jogl and Java 3D are complementary technologies. Each fit
the needs of different types of applications and developers. Support of one
does not imply non-support for the other.
