Im planning to develop a 3D desktop onto an existing windows desktop.Its is not replacing windows but it works seamlessly with the current windows desktop.The movement and navigation within the 3D virtual desktop is identical to a 3D video game.
I would like this desktop to be able to launch applications, open files, play music, retains all Windows functionality, integrated games within the desktop, real world, recognizable 3D icons for linking to programs, seamlessly integrates personal desktop, Web browsing, and portal functions, allows you to speed surf dozens of websites at once, dynamically change environment themes, user customizable environments with movable furniture, decorate the environment with favourite digital pictures, complete drag and drop from Windows and the Web to the desktop, and a beautiful, animated sky that automatically changes from day to night in real time.
My questions are, would JAVA3D be able to do all of the functions that i want and would it be able to interact with windows without any difficulties?Does it have to interact with the windows shell or is there any possible way to do this without messing around with the windows shell programs?How do i go about doing all of this?Where do i start and is there any tutorials that i can use?
