A lot has happened since June 2003, including a renewed emphasis
by Sun on the desktop, so it is possible that both are true. As to:

Now this is silly. Journalists are often the only source for
information
interested parties would want to keep under wraps and conversely
"official" sources, corporate and governmental alike, are perfectly
capable of willfully spreading disinformation. The bottom line, which
you learn in journalism school, is that there is not such thing as an
authoritative source: rather, all news must be confirmed from several
sources. Ultimately whether a news item is credible is a judgment
call.
