I'm not quite sure whether I understand the last sentence. Are you saying that
the current J3D VRML loader implementation is a "road to nowhere" which will
be replaced by a different implementation? Will Sun do another VRML browser
in Java(3D). I'm just curious because I did put quite some effort into the 
current J3D VRML loader ....
