>From a consumer standpoint I get your point entirely. It's a nice device, certainly better than anything else on the market, so who cares about the developer's troubles? However, we're also developers. And for developers, this is fundamentally unfair. The battle for them is to give in now, thereby showing they can be trampled, and setting themselves up for an even worse future, accepting long term term loss to get short term gain. And, part of the reason the iPhone is pretty neat is because of third party apps. So as consumers it might help if you stood with the developers and made a bit of a stink about it. In a related note: The last openmoko phone really completely sucked. I'd love it if openmoko became something nice - competition is great, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up. Or, do keep your hopes up, but check a demo before you buy.
