I do have latest java update. I did not choose to run java 6 by default java version "1.5.0_16" is the latest 'official' OS X java.
And I had tried with java 6 too at some point - the same result. I went to Applications folder, did a chown -R <defaultuser> Netbeans but that did not work. It is more than just permission issue.
