In my observation it tends to curb excesses in ego and behavior.

Most of the places I've worked with strong professional tensions
needed to be very male. (I'm talking, physical altercations).

I support diversity in a development team, both in personality, skill
and skill set and believe evolution doesn't occur in a mono-culture.

But that's just my personal feelings.
