I'm regularly using it. Correcting pictures, format conversion, making icons, logo's, etc... It's the defacto product for bitmap image manipulation in Linux. I tried it in Windows but that's a lot buggier. Personally I never thought of something which The Gimp could not do. Usually after some googling around of how to do it.
