As a developer who might be using JFX in the future, I'd much rather see the dev team direct their efforts at making Creative Suite users happy so I think you have the right idea already. As regards documenting the standard, I think this would be the appropriate level of engagement with the OSS community, personally I've always considered open source provided by companies to be the icing on the cake whereas open specs are a more fundamental requirement. Some design notes or code snippets might also help to encourage participation and of course, there might be a suitable summer of code style project in there for someone.
