Hey sorry, I often get behind in reading this group.

I bought my wife a Kindle 2 for her birthday, and I have one book on
it that I read when she's not looking. :)

We fixed the slowness problem with a particular reboot sequence that
was recommended when we called their tech support. I wanted to see how
responsive and effective their support was for this kind of problem,
and they were actually very nice and our problem was solved.

I went with the smaller non-DX model because I read a bit about
fragility with the DX, and I thought my wife would prefer the small
device for reading her books. It is really small and light, and the
pages are at least as big as most paperbacks. I find it easy to read
from. If I wanted it more for tech books with diagrams and such (and
PDFs), I might go with the DX, but for just linear reading through
text the small one is fine.
