@casper : Good story. You tried some products, they didn't meet all your needs, you switched to other products. Perfect example. If something doesn't meet you need, choose something else. Apple is a company, they make products, it fits or doesn't fit your needs/ desires. You use it or use something else. Done. But comparing Microsofts situation to Apples, no. Apple has no monopoly, a big share in one section of the mobile phone market sure, but no monopoly. You want Apple to be sued just so the product/platform conforms to your wants/needs? No. Apple isn't getting a free ride either, they are attacked and railed against daily, and products like Android are created because of it.
@Jesse: You don't HAVE to pay for the SDK, only pay if you want to write software that will be served on the app store. Don't like it, go write software for Android, see you have a choice. Where is all the resentment about having to pay to put apps on the Xbox, or PS3? This whole 'Nightmare' stuff is the way your choosing to see it. No one is force ANYONE to do ANYTHING with Apple products/platforms. Developers write software for iPhone/iPad because they choose to, they see opportunity, and if they do it and find the constraints of the platform to limiting, they have the choice to move on. I find it laughable to see bemoaning of the structure of Apples own products/ platforms who have zero investment in the platform. How dare Apple have a Monopoly over its own products/platforms! If someone is writing software on the platform, or using the products, then they've every right to comment on its limitations as much as its strengths. But if they are sitting there using Linux and don't write software for the iPhone and condemn and complain about Apple and its products, then they don't carry much weight. So to get back to the original topic, maybe its ok for the posse to like Apples products even if they like open source. Its not an either/ or situation. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
