With Flash being so popular yet it is debatable whether it is the right technology to fit into the HTML world, is there really rooms for JavaFX?
Listening to the "This Ain't your Dad's Java" podcast (from Sun), I got the feeling it was looking promising in the Java TV space. I can imagine them doing well there.
In other spaces I hear people using it, but certainly nowhere near the penetration of Flash/Flex.
It will be interesting to see what Oracle does with it in the enterprise space. Will they start pushing it over JSF and similar for mainline application UIs? I recall hearing somewhere Larry saying the opinion of AJAX being the wrong way to go. But it would be a big change, and would take time to propagate through.
Personally I have found JavaFX in the browser to be substandard. Even going to the javafx demos I get ugly scrolling, delayed refreshes etc. Eg. http://javafx.com/samples/Sudoku/index.html then scroll the page up and down. For me, the JavaFX application lags the rest of the page when scrolling. It jitters as I scroll. I don't have that problem with Flash. It takes away from the feeling of solidity. (It is however getting better over time.)
