Generally I "don't bother". That's not exactly true. I just realise it's not possible to keep up to date with everything. So you just have to be balanced about it. I try to keep up to date with things that interest me rather than what I think I'm going to need to know. Sometimes I get the feeling that a technology is "wrong" so I let it go by. Then I find a few years later I see everyone else has moved on from it as well. :) When I'm interviewing (on either side of the table) I try to focus on the fact that most technologies can be picked up quickly by the right people and that general "brain skills" is what's important. *
* using "brain skills" in a sentence disproves my own argument. So, in short. Can't know everything. Don't need to. Don't try.
