I agree. And in any case, let's me be more pragmatic: show me a popular alternative that is simpler and I'll reckon that is better. With "popular" I mean that Java, the original one or the variants, is really pervasive and can be used for virtually any kind of context, even though maybe it's not necessarily the best one for that context.
