Sorry Joe, but I respectfully disagree. Companies do things all the time that are not profitable in order to attract profits else where. I think that abandoning Java developers is one of those things that will come back to bite them. I don't think Oracle was expecting this announcement.. or at least it appears that way in the contacts I've had with them. So, it's not clear that Oracle will be picking up the ball on this one. For sure life will go on but it seems as though Apple has put it's stock in the consumer market and it's working so good for them. But if it means abandoning developers who might dabble in Objective-C but now won't because that platform doesn't support their other development needs.. then they've potentially cut themselves off at the knees. This attitude, which is reminiscent of their attitude in the 80s.. and you see how far that got them.
