I could see Microsoft really dragging their feet on such a proposed
change. At least if some bytecode system was available new languages
could be used which don't need to have existed at the time bytecode
was added to the browser as long as the compiler of that language can
target the bytecode.

Perhaps it is pointless making the point because I don't see realistic
prospects of getting all the browser creators to agree on providing
this nor making all the implementations compatible.

Never mind though. HTML 5 is going to fix everything, so I am told. I
will just sit back and watch HTML 5 heal all the problems with web
development.
