As for Tron... Some great early use of CGI, to be sure, but you know that
computers aren't really like that on the inside, right?
I loved War Games as well. I remember having my 300baud Hayes dialing
every phone in the local area hunting for systems. lol

Yea I knew it wasn't like that, I just wanted to recreate that world.incidence
Trying write a Tank program or light cycle routine.
I'd exclude movies, since I almost never went to the cinema and AFAIK Tron has been never broadcast in TV here (actually, I think I have never seen it). Around 1 the 18/20 years I was a fan of military aviation (I'm still, but with less time to dedicate) and at the time there were the first flight simulators that weren't just a bunch of pixels. I was so interested in computer graphics that I even wrote a flight simulator. For the previous years, since when I had the first computer at 13, I think some influence was by Space: 1999, the TV series (I don't know how popular was in the USA, it was a UK production with italian TV as co-producer, and it was broadcast a few times since 1976). Broadcast again at the beginning of the 80's it surely contributed to my desire to buy a computer, in addition to other stimuli. It's curious, because in the plots actually there wasn't much of relevance of computers (David Kano, computer operation officer, was definitely a secondary character, but I recall that at the time I wanted to be a 'cibernetico'). OTOH I wasn't a big fan of Star Trek (it came to Italy only in the '80s, but it was broadcast by commercial TVs, that at the time operated in precarious conditions, so it wasn't easy to watch a whole series; they improved some years later). I can't recall of any other TV/movie influence.
