I have still to see the new film but I will go to the IMAX after work
and see about when I can see it (depending how much it is sold out).

When Tron came out originally I would have been about 1 year old
(Still there are people in their twenties now for whom it came out
before they were born).

I recall it somewhat from childhood but I expect that it must have
been re-run on television. At that time it would have gone over my
head a bit. I really got more into it later, possibly the wrong way
around as I appreciated it after already getting involved in the
industry and appreciating the forward thinking.

It is amazing what was achieved for the time and the computer graphics
are only a portion of the artistry which went into the film. I do
wonder if sentimentalism might make me look at the film with slightly
rose tinted glasses. There were some fairly profound ideas presented
but the dialog is probably not going to win any literary awards or
perhaps some of the acting.

I worry, not having seen it yet, that I am reminded of Star Wars where
the expectation of a new film was highly anticipated by the fan base.
I am not sure if it will live up to my expectations.

Some concepts are pretty far fetched such as the idea of being able to
digitise real world objects and put them inside a computer. That kind
of technology seems virtually impossible in reality. The Matrix style
approach of deep immersion in an artificial environment seems more
plausible.

There are some real battle lines drawn up in the real world and
sometimes quite bitter competition between corporations as well as
between different ideologies in our industry. Films like Tron could
depict that kind of struggle but I wonder if there would be a fear of
getting sued or maybe it isn't seen as interesting to the rest of the
world.

I also can imagine the Oracle acquisition in terms of Tron. I can
imagine all the blue Sun assets being turned bright Oracle red to
serve Larry their master user.
