If nothing else, the original was generous with catchphrases.  I had a
friend in high school who often used the salutation "Greetings,
programs!" when walking into a group. It keeps attracting shoutouts
from other shows and movies… for example, the "hybrids" in the new
"Battlestar Galactica" always ended their prattling with "End of
Line".

I was already into programming when TRON came out, so I "got" the idea
of programs resembling their creators, and kept wondering over the
years what that meant for the modern era when code is seldom written
by a single person.  Actually, that gets to one of the really dated
concepts of the original: the programs also refer to their "user", who
is usually the person who wrote them too (e.g., Alan wrote Tron, and
Tron refers to Alan as "his User").  That seemed typical of a really
early academic era, when researchers would write programs to solve
their own problems, as opposed to programs performing more general
tasks that would be useful to others.
