I don't think this is a valid worry. Sure, we have more sophisticated leisure options and gadgets than ever before, yet the overall pace of global innovation just keeps accelerating. Consumer computing devices like tablets and smartphones are probably doing more help than harm. It's not like our world's best engineerings and scientists are dropping their work to play Sudoku on the iPad all day.
