IMHO I think that a lot of developers who may or may not have a background in Computer Science may sell short the value of the degree and the things that you learn when obtaining one or more degrees. The important piece of your education is to understand the how and why. For instance a good course in programming languages will give you an understanding of why you would want to use an OO language in one instance or a functional language in another situation. Syntax is easy. The skill comes into play when you can apply your knowledge in various situations.
