Part of your choice will depend on how much time you are willing to spend
before needing a paycheck. If you have the time to spare, getting a degree
in Computer Science will give you a leg up on the competition. Software
Development has a lot to do with problem solving. I find most of my time is
spent figuring out why something doesn't work the way it should and then
fixing it.

If you are in a hurry, then you might want to pick up some web technologies
such as PHP, Javascript, and the like. Look at what skills Junior developers
need in the technologies you like. Some technologies have a steep learning
curve while others don't. Some have great books you can learn from, while
others you have to fish around for what you need.
