Why not use GWT ? Its easily got the best development environment - IE your favourite IDE as opposed to all other solutions whihc basically equate to you authoring javascript in some simple text editor. While there will be times when you need to get your fingers dirty and get into the JS, CS or HTML its a significant improvement over the other alternatives where you start w/ nothing from the start.
