Lombok might just need to be on the classpath when you compile, but it

work
together in the same source file without problems? If it was just a
library it wouldn't need IDE plugins.
IDE plugins are needed because of autocompletion. IDEs need to know that
there are extra fields / methods available in addition to the ones that
have been coded directly in order to provide hints. In other words, IDE
plugins for Lombok are there to solve a problem of the IDE. Actually you
can use Lombok with Ant or Maven by just having a library in the
classapath, thus nothing different than usual business.
