Perhaps software patents aren't any more absurd than they ever have been.

Perhaps the whole patent system is a mess?  I'm not sure….

To me at the very least, all these software patents should have a lot
shorter durations. 7 years maybe?

The idea of patenting gestures seems illogical to me in any way, but I can accept the timing thing - I've said already in the past - if Apple was granted a patent for a couple of years for pinch and such it would have been ok.
