Hmm, have been away for more than two weeks and found a started email that I forgot to press "send" on. Perhaps a bit outdated, but could still be interresting.

Good-day Everyone:

I noticed today that JSR-080 passed its vote yesterday with nothing but approval from those who voted.

A big congratulations to everyone who worked on this project. The jSyncManager Project Team has greatly benefited from the availability of this API set, and we look forward to continued reliance upon it for USB data communication for many releases to come.

Yes, good news.

Now we just need to mobilize the necessary OSS development communities to get a Windows and Mac OS X implementation (and maybe even an OS/2 implementation -- there is a group looking into it, believe it or not!) :).

Getting Mac OS X and Windows would be great. I'm not quite sure how much effort that would take, but the current linux implementation is "Not That Much Code" (TM). Perhaps OS X would not be too hard, looking at libusb http://libusb.sourceforge.net there is some effort to make a common USB interface for multiple platforms. Perhaps code / ideas could be utilized from that project.

For Windows, perhaps www.steelbrothers.ch/jusb could be of help.
