The ASCII-code 39 character is the apostrophe character. I used that character as the original word and the word prime as the new word in the JAWS dictionary manager and that worked. I made that change for NotePad only, otherwise, the apostrophe character would always be called prime where ever it appeared. You could do that in what ever application is appropriate. Just remember that the apostrophe character will be called prime any time it appears within that application, appropriate or not. There might be a way to make that pronunciation context sensitive within the application but I don't know how.

My daughter has a math student using JAWS 5. What ever they are using there are ASCII codes in the text such as ASCII 39 which represents prime. Is there a way to teach JAWS to say these ASCII characters? I am assuming maybe an escape code such as the backslash preceding the ASCII decimal value in the dictionary manager? I am off to see what I can find in JAWS Help. Thanks. Dale Leavens, Cochrane Ontario Canada [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype DaleLeavens Come and meet Aurora, Nakita and Nanook at our polar bear habitat.
