Mark, everyone knows Norton. Its so easy to hack in to because it is the well-known anti-virus program. Viruses are designed to go through Norton. All hackers know how to hack Norton. This is the truth.
Besides, it is not rather accessible with jaws. I mean, you can do some jaws cursoring and perform a scan, but there tuns of un-labeled graphics. I don't know the exact CPU usage of Norton because I don't have it on my system, but it sure does slow the PC down. To look at the CPU usage, go to task manager and go to the processes tab. Rout jaws to PC cursor and maybe you can find the process Norton. It would be Norton.exe, but don't quote me on that. However, AVG is a very good anti-virus program. It is very accessible with jaws and I only need to use the jaws cursor once. In my opinion, the free addition will do you fine provided you have ad-ware, spyware removal tools and firewalls. All the accessible tools are on the jaws-users website -- some with scripts some with no scripts. I have seen messages about AVG from time to time on this list. I have used Norton since 2003, and am now on Norton 360. I have been told by a number of people that Norton slows down a PC and is not necessarily the best, although it is the one most computer shops in this country seem to push. I have looked at AVG's site, and see that there is a free version and one for which you have to pay. The free version seems to do one thing at a time, whereas the paid version seems to include anti virus, anti spyware, anti spam and a firewall. What I would like to know is whether the free version is adequate, or is the paid version the one to go for. It is reasonably priced, so that is not a problem. I have never used the program before, and I would appreciate knowing how well it works with JAWS. The articles on the Tips and Tricks page seem to deal with just the anti spyware aspect, or how to schedule a scan. I would be grateful for any other information. Thanks.
