My happy bias is with Abbyy Finereader Pro though I understand that version 9.0 while giving great ocr result is not suite as screenreader friendly as previous versions.
The price for FR 9.0 is about Euro 150.00, which would make it very roughly about US$225.00 given the current exchange rate. If you have used MOmnipage befoer, this is said to give good accessible recognition also. If you have office xp or higher, it comes with some basic and accessible ocr built into it that gives surprisingly good ocr results. If you do not want to scan whole encyclopedias every day, you might want to try if what comes with office is not enough for your needs. Finally, several of my friends have k1k11 and love it but unless you're untitled to upgrade from a previous version, I just find it too expensive to justify.
