No cell co-ordinates are taken across as far as I can tell . Data is simply presented as a table but headers are announced in the normal way of a table on a web page.
. What I do now is when I receive a new unfamiliar spreadsheet is simply quote save as unquote and use the single web page file type to then simply read quickly what is there. I am then much more confident about the structure of the spreadsheet when I go back to work with it in Excel. In the past I have missed whole parts of a spreadsheet as data has been put on a part of a page separated from the main spreadsheet table. A web page read through of the data should avoid any of these sorts of problems. I will definitely keep it in mind. I do have a question. When you convert the file, do you maintain any reference to the cell coordinates from the original Excel file? Annette -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Griffith Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2008 7:49 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [JAWS-Users] Reading Excel files Dear List I do not know why this has not occurred to me before but I recently started converting Excel Spreadsheets I have been sent into single file web page format. That is, an mht file. This converts the spreadsheet into a table on a web page which you can use all the Jaws normal table navigation keys to read once opened in your internet browser. You can also use the say all command to read the entire spreadsheet. Heading can also be announced as in Excel. I have personally found this much easier than simply reading cell by cell within an Excel Spreadsheet, certainly until I am familiar with the spreadsheet layout . In Excel I may have to navigate loads of blank cells and it is harder to get a quote picture unquote of the whole spreadsheet. I have found the mht version much much easier to read. Even if I have to work on or edit the spreadsheet in Excel I have found it useful to keep a web page version open for easier reference. Probably this is obvious to a lot of you and if this is so I apologise but I thought I would pass this on as a suggestion.
