Hi Kenny, As you have probably figured out by now, that setting doesn't do any good for the punctuation / symbols that you are looking to silence. Here's what that setting does: Use this edit box to determine when special characters are announced. Some special characters are always announced. For example, the symbols for Copyright, Registered, and Trademark are always read by JAWS. Select Never so that most special characters are not announced. This is the default setting. Select Type Echo, Say Char, Spell Word so that most special characters are announced when typing, when reading by character, or when spelling a word. Select Also Say Word so that special characters are announced when reading by word, in addition to typing, reading by character, or spelling. Select Also Say Line so that special characters are announced when reading by line, in addition to typing, reading by word or character, or spelling. being announced under the conditions in the previous two options. Select Also Say All so that special characters are announced when reading using the Say All command, in addition to typing, reading by character, word, or line, or spelling.

I noticed something in the Settings Center under the Graphics and Symbols option: Announce Special Symbols When I used the spacebar to toggle that option to "Never." Hopefully that will get rid of the announcing of those special extended characters in Eudora Pro. Thanks Mike for leading me down the right path.
