In theory a good idea but in practice a little unrealistic at the moment I
think. sadly it looks like we may not be spoilt for choice and we may not
have this luxury.
.
In an ideal world we could line up a set of accessible comparable internet
security programs and find relative merits on security performance. With
Norton, MacAfee, AVG, and NOD32 all going inaccessible now to already add to
pre-existing inaccessible programs it's a pretty bleak outlook and it is
difficult to see what can be compared. I already had to remove the security
program that came with my PC as it was inaccessible. It actually rated
pretty highly in security terms but was useless as it kept on alerting me
and I could not do anything to respond to it.

Some people have recommended Avast on this list but I would personally be
reluctant to go back to this as it completely screwed up a PC of mine a few
years ago , I had to spend hours trying to change registry settings and I
had to eventually do a complete new windows install. Hopefully its not so
aggressive with its modification of windows now but it was a program I vowed
never to use again. I have heard some reports that Pccillen is still
accessible but I do not know much about this.

I am with AVG 7.5 for the time being and as long as I am not compelled to
move up to 8 I should b ok. I think all of us on this list using AVG should
send emails backing up the one that David sent.

David Griffith

I agree that accessibility is a major issue for those of us on this list,
however, it seems to me that the primary issue is whether or not the
software does an effective job. How do we evaluate the performance of these
several packages?

Do you or anybody have information on BitDefender Internet Security 2008?
According to the spec sheet it is virtually the same as AVG internet
security, but of course the question is if it is accessible or not.
