Hi Miriam,
It depends on how you install the updates. I believe if you just click on
the install update when Jaws pops that up on your screen it will not get rid
of the Jaws hotkey. But if you go to the Jaws website and get the latest
Jaws version from the site and install it it will get rid of the hotkey and
you will have to put it back in again.

So what about if I install an update? Is that why the hot key disappeared,
because I installed the last few updates?

Hi Miriam,
When you install a new version of Jaws you will have to put the hotkey back
in again. So for example when Jaws 19 comes out you will have to put the
hotkey back in again. Just remember that. Also if you go to the Jaws
website and get a complete version of Jaws with an update and install it you
will have to reinstall the hotkey for Jaws.

Wow, that hot key really wasn't there. Thanks so much. I just did it. I was
so sure I'd set it up but I think it was with old directions for an old
version of Jaws.

Hi Miriam,
Do you have the shortcut setup for your Jaws? Here are the steps to do that.
1. Press windows + M to go to your desktop.
2. Press the letter J until you hear Jaws 18.
3. Press the application key and arrow up one time and press enter on
properties.
4. Tab two times and you should hear short cut key. If it says none then
press the letter J
If it says shortcut key ctrl+alt+J then just press the escape key.
6. Now tab until you hear ok, then press enter. Another dialog box may come
up just press yes or continue then you should be done.

Now you should have a shortcut key so when you press ctrl+alt+J it should
start Jaws. Now if you use the other hotkey that now should work.

Since Jaws has never restarted, it never popped up. I sit there and wait,
and nothing happens.

How does one get the error report after doing that type of JAWS re-start?

Just amending the subject line since this string has gone on for some time
with just "JAWS 18" as the subject.

if it comes back at all it takes about 20 seconds with a error report most
of the time. thats why i don't use it.

Actually, that keystroke shuts down jaws, and brings it back up
automatically without having to toggle.

Please tell me again, in detail, what to do when Jaws 18 disappears. I wrote
down to press Jaws key plus windows key plus F4 and this turns off Jaws. And
if I press these keys again, they act as a toggle. Am I supposed to press
them simultaneously? When I press them the first time, I can see with my
hugely magnified Magic that the screen changes. But I haven't gotten Jaws to
restart with those keys or with any others. I am having to resort to turning
the computer off with the button and then turning it on again. Even though I
can see that I've moved to the screen that says, "Shut Down", the key
strokes don't work. But, after I press the button, just before the screen
changes, Jaws says something, but then the computer shuts down. I have a 64
bit windows 7 computer. I'd sell my soul for a key stroke that would just
get Jaws working again without having to shut down the computer and wait for
it to start and load.
