I would use the Desktop layout in all computers, but often laptops have no numeric keypad and, since this is emulated with function keys, activating and routing cursors is a challenge without the Laptop layout. There are laptop models with numeric keypad, but thei're not convenient to carry out because the numpad enlarges the machine a lot.
