My current laptop has a numeric key pad, which was one of a number of
reasons for choosing it.

Maybe it's because I am just used to it but I like having a full numb pad.
When I use a laptop without a numb pad I bought an external numb pad and
plugged it into a USB port.

I would use the Desktop layout in all computers, but often laptops have no
numeric keypad and, since this is emulated with function keys, activating
and routing cursors is a challenge without the Laptop layout. There are
laptop models with numeric keypad, but thei're not convenient to carry out
because the numpad enlarges the machine a lot.
