If headphones are connected through an USB port, headphones will be a different
sound playback devices in Windows and youll be able to adjust its volume
independently of the built-in speakers, by using either the Volume Mixer or the
Levels tab in the Properties dialog of your headphones in the list shown by the
Playback tab of the Sound dialog.
If headphones are plugged into the 3.5 output connector of the sound card, you
can adjust the headphones volume independently only if the driver of your sound
card exposes the headphones as an independent device, which depending on the
sound processor manufacturer may or may not be the case.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] HeadPhone Jack and Sound Levels

Afternoon all.

I was wondering about something. When I have my laptop speakers operating, I
have the sound level at a comfortable level for me. However, when I plug in my
headphones, it ir REALLY loud. I know that the sndvol command brings up the
sound mixer. Can anyone tell me the way to adjust the headphone jack sound
level without adjusting the speaker output; or is it not possible. I am running
JAWS 17, and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Thanks in advance.

Jerry
