Hi, Ah, I think this is the first real-life example of secondary protection. In other words, when a third-party antivirus program is installed and is protecting your computer, Windows Defender will be turned off. Once the subscription expires, Windows Defender will kick in until you renew your third-party antivirus subscription. And yes, Windows Defender is free and is a built-in antivirus program for Windows (starting from Windows 8.x). Cheers, Joseph
