I had the same problem.  I finally had to go to Freedom Scientific Tech 
Support, and they tried to me to resolve it.

I had two machines at the time. One had Vista Ultimate Home Edition, The 
other (the newer and better of the two) had Windows XP SP3 on it. The 
Windows XP SP3 machine accepted the upgrade with no problem at all. The one 
with Vista on it never accepted the upgrade, even with their help.

Anyhow, I wound up saying Phfft! to Vista, and decided to stick with good 
olde XP.
