Hey, Chris:

What version of JAWS are you using?

When I was using Vista, I found that using anything less than JAWS 9.0 
ptoduced the very same symptoms that you are suffering.

I finally got fed up with it, and reversed my OS back to XP SP3.

That solved my problem. I can use ANY version of JAWS on it.

I  have a brand new Dell Vostro 1500, it came with Vista Ultimate Home, and 
after a week of pulling my hair out, and trying to get it to work properly 
for me at all, with any of my programs, including JAWS 9.0,  I sent my 
machine back to my rehab officer, who had Dell reverse the OS on it back to 
XP SP3.
