hello many thanks for this info. I am doing a system scan with avast ante
virus and it found the virus and I chose to delete it. I hope that that got
rid of the problem. I have not as of yet re started my system. I will keep
this info for future reference. many thanks. from Mich.

Hello Mitch,
A system restore does not always remove a virus or spyware. The first
thing you should do is a full system scan using your antivirus program.
If the malware was installed, it probably installed its own keys and
values throughout various hives of your Windows registry. Your antivirus
program should be able to remove all the registry entries and change any
that were altered by the malicious program. Hopefully you have your
antivirus definitions up-to-date. When your antivirus program detects
files belonging to the virus you will be given choices dealing with what
you want to do with those files. I usually have them deleted, but if you
are not sure then at least have them quarantined or separated into an area
used by your antivirus program to keep the files from running on your
system. It might be called "quarantine" "chest" etc. If your antivirus
program needs to restart your system in order to remove some items that
can't be removed while the operating system is active then let it restart
your system.
The second thing you should do is after doing the full system scan for
viruses, do the same using any anti-spyware program such as Super
Anti-Spyware or Spybot.
If you are unable to get into the operating system when you start your
computer then you might need some sighted assistance to get into safe mode
in order to run your antivirus and anti-spyware programs. When you start
your computer start pressing F8 repeatedly before the Windows logo
appears. Again, you need sighted help for this procedure. Choose the
"safe mode" choice from the resultant menu and follow instructions for
getting into safe mode. Have the sighted person do a full system scan
with your antivirus and then your anti-spyware programs when in safe mode.
When your system is free from the malicious program and you are in Windows
running normally, you should remove all restore points so that you don't
restore the system to a time when the malware was active. After deleting
the restore points you should restart the system and set system restore
back to being active. Create a restore point with a name that lets you
know it was for a time when your system was cleansed from malware.
If you need any more info about doing the above steps then send me an
Email at the address shown below.
Take care.
Brian Lee

Subject: [JAWS-Users] update on removing micro anty virus.
hello all. last night I tried something to remove the mal wear program
that I seem to have on my pc. I went to my computer under the main drive
and deleted the program from the program's folder. it was a folder and I
removed it and then I removed the icon from the desk top and after I
emptied the recycle bin it seemed to be gone from my system tray. since
it was in there as well. since doing this I have not re started the pc
since it came up at start up. I am just wondering weather I did the right
thing? or if I possibly might have made things worse? I am thinking of
doing a system restore just to be safe. I would like the lists thoughts
please. many thanks. from Mich Verrier.
