Hi Folks, A most perplexing problem has plagued me of late, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for it.
Using the latest build of Jaws 9, Windows XP, Norton Anti-Virus 2005 and nothing else I can think of that would affect it, besides running it on a Toshiba Laptop, when ever I start up, I get no speech with Jaws, and so I have to start Narrator, shut down Jaws, then restart it again. At that point, I get speech back with no problems after that. I do have a persistent dialog box that pops up when Jaws starts telling me that it could not load the Braille driver, and I have not been able to shut that off, or stop it from coming up. I should note that this dialog box does not pop up when the computer starts, only when I restart Jaws after the initial no speech. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to why this happens and what I can do to fix it? I have thought that the Braille driver is starting up when the computer boots up, and therefore gives me no speech, defaulting to the non-existent Braille display I once had hooked up to it, and so when I shut Jaws down and restart it, it no longer can find that Braille driver, and so defaults back to the speech? Does this sound plausible, and if so, how can I fix this problem? I would welcome any suggestions. Thank you all for your help.
