Hi Alex,
I would try downloading and installing an earlier version of Jaws from FS, and then trying to virtualize that window.
Here's a work-around, if you do not need to access the log-in screen.
Create a shortcut for Jaws, and place it in the startup folder on the start menyu. This will start Jaws after Windows loads, and Jaws will run as an application,
and should be heard thru your speakers.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Rick, Jaws says it as "I m I c u s b sound device", but because I can't
virtualised the window, or use the jaws cursor, I can't be sure I'm spelling
it right.
Cheers
Alex

Hi Alex,
I have found the following:
Jaws will automatically take the last soundcard installed, and it will
go to that card when it loads as a service.
However, if you unload, and reload Jaws without specific parameters
it comes back and runs as an application, on the soundcard of your choice.
What is the name of the soundcard you want Jaws to use?

I'm using jaws 9, and I don't have jaws 8 anywhere. The strange thing is,
that when jaws is coming out of the headset after having auto-started
after
boot up, if I close it and open it again it comes out of the speakers.
Cheers Alex

Can you drop back to an earlier version of Jaws long enough to get this
done?

Rick, I've tried that, but when I route jaws to pc no matter how I move
the
jaws cursor it just says blank blank blank.

Hi Alex,
If virtualizing the window isn't working for you, try this:
Once you have the audio device you want selected, try routing Jaws to PC,
and reading the string character-by-character, and type it that way in
the
.ini file.
If you want, I can send you a copy of my file off-list, so you can see
how
it is setup.

Rick Justice

Rick, thanks for this, but I'm still having a problem. I'm finding it
very
difficult to work out exactly what the string I need to copy from the
audio
properties in control panel is. I can't virtualised the window, it says
there's no text, and the jaws cursor is finding nothing. Anybody got any
ideas?
Cheers
Alex

Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws and multiple sound cards

I've just bought myself a new usb headset. I've got everything set up
pretty
much how I like it, so that skype comes out of the headset, and nothing
else. Unfortunately however when I reboot my machine and jaws starts
automatically, jaws speaks through the usb headset. If I go into
control
panel, into sound and audio settings go to the audio page hit ok, and
come
out of control panel, jaws then speaks through the speakers the way I
want
it to. How can I fix this? I have a vague recollection there's
something
in
thejfw.ini file you have to change for multiple sound cards, but I
can't
remember what it is.
Any help would be most welcome.
Cheers
Alex
