It might be possible that either persons you are visiting has a secure ID
connection. You would need them to give you that information before you can
logon to the network.

Hello everyone,
Could anyone on this list that’s familiar with wireless cards, with lap top
computers, please give me instructions on the following problem.
Whenever I visit my nieceshouse and try to use my lap top computer, I’m
unable too pick upany signal. She and her husband are connectedtoo com cast
cable. Does anyone know if their’s some kind of specific code that they use
so that I can have my wireless card on my lap top computerconnect and be
able too receive a signal? Also, is this considered illegal?Because if it
is, That’s something that I don’t want too do at any cost. I also experience
this same sortof problem when I'm visiting my girl friends house, even
though she only livs six floors above me. We both use Verizon as our inter
net provider.
