I read a good article on the Adobe site concerning pdf files and Jaws. I
learned some new ways of handling pdf files and what Jaws commands I can use
through this article. It's a good read.

Click on the article titled
Accessing PDF Documents with Assistive Technology: A Screen Reader User's
Guide (PDF, 368k)

In the article, one thing I learned was that in a PDF file, you have to use
insert-control-f for find. It then finds text on the visible page or pages.
Control-f initiates the Adobe search box which is another kind of search
altogether. It searches the whole document, but you are then in a search
dialog with results that you have to click on.

I would prefer being able to read PDF files straight from PDF files reliably
as well. But many times I encounter a badly structured file which has
problems reading in Acrobat Reader, I select Save as Text in the file menu.
Then I can open the converted file in any text editor. This is not perfect
either. But I find that reading does not skip around this way and I have
never learned the secret to using the find in Acrobat Reader. I used this
method this morning to read a DirecTV User Manual for a few different
receivers to search for specific details regarding enabling Described Video.
