Hello Flor,

Yes, the manual line break or soft return is caret+L as you stated. I think that most of the time in Word people are wanting to get rid of extra paragraph marks. Manual line breaks can be very handy in things like bulleted or numbered lists when a person wants a line between bullets or numbered items. Of course, a manual line feed can be used in those situations with a shift key+enter keystroke.

Thank you for correcting this Flor.

Take care.

Brian,

The correct symbol for a line-break (or 'soft return') is ^l [shifted6l], as
distinct from paragraph mark (or 'hard return') which is ^p [shifted6p].
When shift-down-arrow is pressed, a 'line' is selected which, if it is
blank, is a paragraph mark or 'new line'. Lines have to break up anyway,
which causes soft returns and thus ^l (carat l) is the actual character for
this.

Hello sherry,

When Microsoft Word wraps on its own to a new line or when you press the
enter key to move focus to a new line, Microsoft Word inserts a paragraph
mark. A paragraph mark is used for soft or hard returns. To replace
paragraph marks in Word bring up the "Find and replace" dialog using CTRL+H to move focus into the "replace" page. In the edit box type a caret (shift
f6) followed by a letter "P", use tab key to the replace all button and
depress it. This will remove all paragraph marks in the document.

Take care.

It has worked for me to just select the linebreak symbol with shift and
the curser key, copy it to clipboard and paste in the find field, then
replacing it with nothing filled in the replacement field, which will in
effect delete the line breaks then enter on replace or replace all.
