Clifford,

Details will probably differ according to the scanning software on your
pc,
but with my epson 2580, it's as follows:

Of course, your scanner's drivers must be installed for this to work.

Go into the programs submenu, usually reachable by pressing p from start
menu.

Then select epson scan [or relevant] sub menu and enter.

Enter on first option: Epson scan.

Select your installed scanner if it's not already selected, tab to OK
and
enter.

Then I seem to lose focus, but you should land on, or switch to the
window
entitled:
file save settings.

I think the default save file location is my pictures, but press the
browse
button to check or change and enter on ok.

Tab through the options and adjust them as needed.

Where it says filename prefix, it's the title you want for the
document.

The number spinbox is probably sequencial pages, but I'm not sure.

Image format type, I was told jpg is good quality but smaller size than
pdf, but this is up to one's choice.

The open image folder after scanning, is helpful if one has sighted
assistance to check whether the scan was accurately performed.

Confirm with OK.

I've used this method to scan certificates and court orders and had a
reliable sighted person checking the accuracy of the scans.

This method renders better accuracy than the image scan option with
exact view kept, in Openbook 7.02.

After your message, I did some exploring on my own. I think what you
suggest will likely work for me. I won't be able to confirm until I can
try it at home though.

I looked in the Accessories menu and found the Scanning and Camera
Wizard. It was easy to follow the prompts to set the type of file and
where to save the scanned files. I'll give it a try this evening.

Thanks for enlightening me.

I'm not at a relevant pc to check right now, but if I remember
correctly, you go into the scanners and cameras menu and follow prompts
from there and it works with jaws, at least from version 7.

I cannot verify this at work.

If so, I don't know where to find this facility in XP.

But can't one do that easily via the basic scan facility under windows?

Thank you very much. If I jump it would be for the standard version.
I'm really only looking for the ability to scan and capture images for
sharing with family and friends.

Hi Clifford.

Omnipage 16 is fully accessible with Jaws, but it is a very advanced ocr
program, so how user friendly it is, is a question of understanding the
settings interface.
The program exists in two versions, a standard version and a
Professional version, the last one is for though who wants to create
audio books directly from the scanned material.

Best regards from Hans Pauli.

Is Omnipage 16 accessible with Jaws? I need a scanning/ocr program for
scanning pictures and other visual documents to be sent to others. Open

Book and Kurzweil might work, but aren't really intended for such
things.

If there are problems using Omnipage 16, are there other scanning
programs that would suit my purposes?

Thanks.
